Convert WPS Spreadsheet ET to HEIC

ET is the spreadsheet format from Kingsoft WPS Office, the Chinese answer to Excel. It dominates corporate and government IT in mainland China, Hong Kong, and increasingly Southeast Asia, where Kingsoft has aggressive OEM bundling deals with PC manufacturers. The format is binary, structurally inspired by .xls but with its own opcodes, embedded CJK font hinting, and occasionally macro modules written in WPS's VBA-compatible scripting layer.

Westerners encounter .et files most often when a supplier in Guangzhou emails a quotation, a research collaborator in Beijing shares lab data, or a translation agency in Taipei sends a glossary. Excel and Numbers both refuse to open the format. LibreOffice has partial support but mangles complex formulas. heic.now converts the spreadsheet to HEIC by rendering each used sheet region as a styled table, preserving column widths, merged cells, and basic conditional formatting where the source declares it - then HEVC-encodes the render at roughly half the bytes a JPG snapshot would need.

Typical uses include reviewing a supplier's price list on an iPhone without WPS installed, keeping an immutable audit copy of quoted figures in a compliance archive, or filing data snapshots into Apple Photos and iCloud where the smaller HEIC footprint compounds across hundreds of files. For long sheets, the converter paginates so each image stays readable. Recipients on Windows or in chat tools may not open HEIC - route the output through /heic-to-jpg for them, or build a portable bundle with /heic-to-pdf.

The .et extension stands for E-Table, the spreadsheet sibling of Kingsoft WPS Office, born in the late 1990s as part of Kingsoft's drive to deliver a complete Chinese-built office suite. Like its presentation cousin .dps, the format quietly converged toward Microsoft Excel compatibility through the 2000s while keeping superior native support for Chinese fonts, ten-thousand (wan) number formatting, and government-mandated formula templates. WPS Office is the default spreadsheet across Chinese state agencies, banks, and universities, so .et workbooks circulate by the billion every year. A HEIC render hands those sheets to Mac and iPhone reviewers in their devices' native image format at half the JPG size.

Converting ET to HEIC renders each page or slide as a fixed image - The layout, fonts, tables, and graphics captured exactly as they appear, in a format roughly half the size of the equivalent JPG render. The result is a read-only visual snapshot that cannot be edited, reflowed, or accidentally modified by the recipient's software.

This suits Apple-device reference workflows: page images of contracts, reports, slides, and drawings stored as HEIC open instantly in Quick Look, Photos, and Files on Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and occupy minimal iCloud space even for long documents. No office software or ET viewer is needed at any point after conversion.

Because HEIC support is thin outside the Apple ecosystem, use this conversion when the images are for your own devices or an Apple-based team. When page snapshots need to travel to unknown recipients, Windows systems, or web uploads, converting the document to JPG produces the universally compatible equivalent.
